I am a sometimes vegetarian.  Sometimes, I tell myself to embrace the vegetarian life and to devote my stomach to eating healthy greens and avoiding animal proteins.  My diet consists mostly of this vegetarian behavior as a default so I can usually pull off these food choices for quite sometime.  Yet, there is something about bacon and unfortunately, I always break. At some point, I smell it. That smokey, glazed, caramelized scent of bacon is too much for my senses to bear. My mouth begins to water in its presence. At the Big E, while pursuing the carnival games and being assaulted by the noise of a country fair, there was a whole stand dedicated to the delights of bacon: chocolate dipped bacon, bacon on a stick, local bacon, bacon ice cream, bacon chocolate bars, etc. Reading over these first sentences makes me feel a little silly.  I sound a bit like a pig gobbler, but there is something about this particular type of animal protein that speaks to my stomach. I have worked hard to avoid the temptation of a bacon only diet, yet every now and then I give into the bacon.  Last night I tried to consciously make a "healthy decision" in regards to my bacon consumption.  Now I know this is not a healthy dinner but I also know that this is a pretty tasty treat that I will allow myself from time to time and my BLT salad was a pretty good option for combining my healthy greens with my bacon treat.  As my students say YOLO (you only live once) so it is okay with me if bacon creeps into my diet from time to time.  I usually don't cheat on my veggies for long.
